Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott injured right thumb has been infected

Duck Prescott stated after Sunday night's 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that he intends to get surgery on his right thumb.

As a result, he could be out of the game for 6-8 weeks and injury would likely take him to injured reserve.

When delivering a pass in the fourth quarter, Prescott struck outside linebacker Shaq Barrett in the hand.

On Monday, Prescott will see the cowboy's doctor after having a pin and plate put in the affected location to immobilise his arm.

He initially thought he had suffered a minor injury but the X-ray report showed a fracture.

After the game, Prescott bandaged his right hand, saying, "I was told it was cleaner than it could have been."
