For one week, Geno Smith will start at quarterback for the Seahawks.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll declared Smith the team's starting quarterback for Week 1 of the season

Drew Lock and Smith were competing to be the starting quarterback,

Carroll made the announcement to begin his postgame news conference.

He will start the first game, and he has earned the position, according to Carroll.

Just under ten years after the New York Jets took him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Smith, 31, is getting another chance to start.

Over the period of four seasons with Gang Green, Smith started 30 games, but his career finally failed.
